The Great Purge of Pointless Counting Threads (or the GPPCT) is an iconic movement heavily associated with ManosSef in the Chess Simp Community (CSC). The GPPCT was presumably started by ManosSef under the command of Chess Simp. Its intent was to eliminate most of the clutter from counting threads in the forums channel of the CSC, ManosSef claiming that "we have almost changed the server's theme from chess to counting." Its statement was that whoever posted a counting thread in CSC without following a set of rule criteria would have their thread locked and closed. It was viewed as generally oppressive to the forums community of CSC.
The GPPCT's public forum thread discussion post was created on August 23rd, 2024 and it is presumably when the moderative movement started taking action. Currently, the thread is locked and closed under the last recent statement of ManosSef regarding the GPPCT. The last message posted in the thread was the message announcing its closing, stating "The GPPCT is now defunct (at least temporarily) due to inactivity."
GPPCT thread first message

"Ever since some people had the idea to make variants of counting channels here, there has been an increase in the number of counting threads, resulting in half of this entire channel being counting threads. I will admit that I have contributed to the mess by adding the "Counting" tag to the channel a month or so ago. We've almost changed the server's theme from chess to counting.
For this reason, we have decided to start taking action against the pointless counting threads. We (mostly I) will be closing and locking all counting threads that fit any of the criteria listed below, and only keeping the threads that actually add interesting ideas to the base counting theme. This thread can act as a discussion forum for whether people think a counting thread should or should not be closed.
The criteria for a counting thread to be closed are the following:
- No twist. If a counting thread is literally just #counting or #counting-with-math with nothing extra, it will be closed.
- Different base / different character set. Counting with a different base or by adding or removing characters to the set of usable digits is not interesting enough to be considered different from base #counting. The only exceptions to this rule are #binary-counting, #octal-counting, and #hex-counting, since those are the most popular bases apart from decimal.
- Duplicate of another thread. Copies of threads that don't add much to the twist will be closed.
- Too complicated. Rules that are too complex might scare people away.
- Not different enough. In general, if the thread is not different enough in ways aside from the above, it might be closed. Of course, this is subjective, so some discussion with the community might be needed to decide whether a thread should be kept open.
Unofficial 'channels' that try to mimic counting threads may also be closed due to the above criteria."
