Emastories
People doing things for Ema
-1. it was covid lockdown and i found a coffee shop where the owner was like "eh alright you can stay here on the second floor" (it was not allowed). also later i went with her husband to the mountains. and we had like a book club for small business owners and we were discussing our businesses
-2. in a coffee shop a barista was like: hi. psst. i have this rum. do you want some with your coffee.
-3. in another another coffee shop i was like: hi. can you hold onto this key (to my apartment). i am leaving warsaw and my friend will come and pick up the key tomorrow. they were like "alr"
-4. in the same coffee shop as (-2) i saw a guy speaking russian and i was like: hi, im teaching in a school. maybe you have smth you can teach the kids. like a guest lecture. // turned out he was a QA lead and he came to the school and gave like a cool very well done lecture on software testing
-5. i posted a predictions forum "thanks guys i followed your predictions on the ukraine war and got out of ukraine in time, " and they were like "yay" and immediately connected me with random ppl in warsaw and i lived at their apt for free for two months
-5.5. and one of them later was randomly like "emily do you want to help me plant some trees" and we planted like ten trees around the house cuz he didnt like that there were no trees. like is it allowed to just randomly plant trees in the city? maybe not. is anyone gonna care? nah
-6. in yet yet another coffee shop i once came and was like "hi i have these coffee beans can you please grind them and make me a coffee cuz i want to try them but dont have a grinder ". the girl was like "uhhhhhhhhhhhh how do we charge this" but the owner was sitting in the corner and he was like "cmon she brought her own beans why are you gonna charge her at all". and we all tried the beans
it doesnt always work tho, like later i tried it in a few more coffee shops and got refused
-7. when i got hired in the bank i was like "hi i have no money can you give me an advance" and my boss said "no we cant but i can just lend you my own money" and he did
-8. i once went on a date and mentioned that i was vaguely interested to learn italian. the girl came with an italian-ass textbook, we did exercises for an hour, then never talked again. felt 100% like an italian lesson and not like a date. huh
-9. i once thought i was sad cuz of no light in winter so i bought an outdoor light, like i mean the ones used at stadiums and soccer fields and shit, and just brought it to the office. on a 2m high stand. it was bright as fuck. didnt help much tho
-10. i also wanted to have toast in the office but they didnt have a toast anything. so i bought a panini grill and brought it to the office. probably still there
-11. the CTO was once loitering around and saw me and was like "emily why are you working. lets make cold brew". and that day instead of work he was teaching me to make cold brew. (also matcha but that was another time)
-12. in the same office i also wanted to be playing piano while bored, but there was no piano in the office, so i bought etc etc etc
-13. in the same office there was a shitton of empty space so i said "im gonna do haskell meetups on weekends" and then i posted online "hi were gonna be doing haskell meetups" and for the next half a year we had like 20-smth ppl coming to the office on saturdays for haskell meetups
-14. someone messaged me once and said "hi i like your blog. do you want to come to tel aviv" and i said "sure but lets also do a haskell meetup there" and he organized the entire meetup at [his job] by himself cuz i was lazy to help him. i did however give a talk at that meetup so i kinda contributed i guess
